THE GOOD IN CHALLENGES

MEMORY VERSE: say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings, Isaiah 3:10
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 19, 1 Thes 2, Dan 1, Ps 40-41
Pain has its advantages. Although we all dread it, the ability to feel pain or experience pain is crucial to our survival. I never knew the ability to feel pain was a favor from God until I heard the story of a sister. Her mum had challenges in the area of her health and her feet went numb. Mama lived in the country side and preferred to walk barefooted. Since most of the roads were not tarred, there were sharp stones and objects everywhere.  If she dashed her feet on a rock, she wouldn't feel anything. It was so terrible that one of mama’s toes had to be cut off because of a deep cut. No one could really explain how she sustained the cut, but she had a cut and mama did not know until people saw mama’s leg bleeding. By the time they rushed her to the hospital it was too late. Because of her condition, they had to hire a nurse to inspect her feet for any cuts or wound from time to time. Pain informs you that you are in a territory you should not be in or you are doing something you should not do. Pain at times informs our decision. The pain of failure is what motivates some to work hard and succeed.
Do you know that challenges have its advantages? Only the living face challenges. God already knows that the challenges you are going through will not kill you or mark your end. Isaiah 3:10 says say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.  It shall be well with you. One of the reasons why God permits challenges is because He knows that those challenges will cause us to fast and pray which will in turn develop us spiritually. Years ago, I used to see dogs chasing me in my dreams. During that period I faced a major challenge which caused me to really pray and fast. The Lord dealt with the challenge and I had my peace. I noticed that after the rigorous fasting and praying, I stopped seeing dogs chasing me in my dream. By the special grace of God, when I now see leopards in my dream I chase them and they run, praise God. The Lord knew that the challenge was not going to mark my end, He permitted it to that so that I would fast and pray which helped me to develop my spiritual muscles. Challenges also help in developing one’s faith. Every time God takes care of challenges in your life, your faith in Him grows. The next time you see a man of faith, remember you are looking at man who has faced many challenges.
SUMMARY: Without test there will not be a promotion. Without trials there will not be a testimony. You are facing that challenge because God is setting you up for a mega testimony.

WHAT IS IN THINE HAND

MEMORY VERSE: and the Lord said unto him, what is in thine hand? And he said, a rod, Exodus 4:2

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 17, Col 4, Ezek 47, Ps 38

BIBLE STUDY: Exodus 4:1-4

The Lord saw how the Egyptians treated the children of Israel; he picked Moses to lead them out. For a reason or two, Moses felt he was not up to the task so he began to give God excuses. He asked for a sign to show to the children of Israel. Exodus 4:2 says and the Lord said unto him, what is in thine hand? And he said, a rod. The Lord told him to drop the rod .He did and the rod turned into a snake. The Lord told him to pick up the snake by its tail, Moses did and the snake turned into a rod.
Firstly, you will never realize the potential in what is in your hand until you release it to God. The rod of Moses in Exodus 4:2 became the rod of God in Exodus 4:20. In Exodus 14:14-22, Moses lifted the rod and the sea parted into two. The rod became a tool for dividing waters (taking care of challenges). If Moses had not obeyed God and released the rod, he would not have realized the potential in his rod. To realize the potential in that connection you have, use it for God and for the gospel. There are many who think their life is useless, friends your life is not useless. If you want to realize the potential in you, release yourself to God and you will be amazed. That seed (money) in your hand has the potential of yielding hundred fold returns. You will never realize that potential until you release it God. Paul realized the potential in him when he gave himself to the gospel. By the time we get to Acts 19:11, we see aprons from the body of Paul casting out demons.
The rod of Moses had the potential to kill i.e. become a snake (an angel of death). That rod had potential to destroy Moses but he did not know until he obeyed the voice of God and dropped it. The rod became a snake and Moses fled. There are things in our hands that have the potential to destroy us. For instance anger has the potential to destroy a blossoming relationship or growing ministry and many do not know. That is why God is saying drop it. Ecclesiastes 7:9 says anger rest in the bosom of fools. Bitterness and unforgiveness have the potential to put a fellow into spiritual bondage. The spirit of bitterness and unforgiveness hand people over to tormentors. Until you drop them at the feet of Jesus, you will not know true peace. Sin has the potential of turning a son into a slave and God is saying flee away from all appearances of evil, 1 Thessalonians 5:22.
NOTE: The only way to realize the potential in a thing is by giving it to God.

REWARDED BY REACTION

MEMORY VERSE: and he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come, Luke 19:13

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 15, Col 2, Ezek 45, Ps 36

BIBLE STUDY: Luke 19:12-24

A certain noble man had ten servants. Because these servants had served him well over the years, he decided to set them up in business. He gave each servant a capital of one pound to trade with. When he came back, one of the servants had turned the pound into ten pounds. The impressed nobleman rewarded him with ten cities. Another brought a return of five pounds and the nobleman gave him five cities. There was an unwise one who did not bother at all. You know the end of the story.
Ten servants were giving the same capital to trade with i.e. opportunities but their returns varied. The reason for this was because they reacted to the opportunity to trade differently. One grabbed it with his two hands, another didn’t even bother. How come a man is singled out of many for promotion? They do the same job; they probably started at the same time; they face the same challenges at work daily; they were given the same opportunities to prove themselves, how come? Their reaction to the opportunity to serve or work at that company varied. While some were complaining about the management, he minded his business and did his work. While others were arguing with the managers, he listened and ran with the instruction he was given .While others do only what they are paid for, he does extra. Before you know it, the manager will start singing his praise before senior managers and in no time he will be recommended for promotion.
The servants of the noble man were rewarded based on how they reacted to the opportunity to trade. How do you react to the opportunity to come and worship in the house of God? On Sundays, do you only attend family service and miss Sunday school? Do you only attend revivals and skip bible studies? How do you react to medical advices? You have been advised to stay away from certain food, whilst praying for divine healing are you still taking the food the doctors have warned you against? As believers, we are instructed to produce fruits and our fruits must abide, John 15:16.There are two types of fruit here 1) fruit of the spirit – love, patience, kindness etc. Are those fruits visible in your life? 2) Soul winning. How many souls have you won to Christ this year? How many follow up have you done?
NOTE: The noble man in the parable is God and He rewards based on our reactions to the opportunity He has given to us.

ESSENCE OF THE LAW PART 1

MEMORY VERSE: because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression, Romans 4:15.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 13, Phil 4, Ezek 43, Ps 34
Romans 4:15 says because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. If there were no law, we would all be innocent. According to Romans 5:13 , sin had already been in the world long before the law was given, but it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. If that was so, why was the law introduced then? I mean if there were no law there would not be any need for hell (although hell was created for Satan and his hosts anyway), but no human would end up there if there were no law.
Was the law then created to penalize? No, the law was created for the common good of all. The law was to protect. God gave the law for our common good not for His benefit. For instance the law – thou shalt not kill (Exodus 20:13) is there to protect you, your family and friends; we all know no one can kill God. The reason why some of us are alive is because of that law. Considering some of the things we did before we met Christ, we should have been stoned to death. Recently a lady was sharing with us how Exodus 20:13 saved her life. Her mother became pregnant with her at a time when things were very bad. The mother considered abortion, but the law did not permit her. She finally gave birth to a baby girl; today that baby girl is now a 22 year old lawyer. Before you abort that baby think twice; you could be aborting the only child you would have in life or the next prime minister or doctor. Exodus 20:14 saysthou shall not commit adultery. God does not have a wife so He is not trying to protect His wife from you. The essence of that law is to protect your wife.
All of God’s law is to protect us from harm. The law also encourages us to give honor to who honor is due. If not for Ephesians 6:1 – children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right, there are some who would have beaten up their parents in the Lord and inherit a curse. Ephesians 6:2 says honour thy father and mother, (which is the first commandment with promise). This is another law which encourages giving honor to who honor is due. Thank God for this law, I have seen crazy children beat up their parents and parents –in-law. The law of God is not to reveal our faults. If before you gave your life to Christ, you had beaten up your parents either verbally or physically you better go and apologize before the heavens above your head turns into brass.
SUMMARY: By obeying the laws of God, you are making the world a better to live. Not only that, you are also protecting lives and properties.

APPEARANCE MATTERS

MEMORY VERSE: then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh, Genesis 41:14

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 12, Phil 3, Ezek 42, Ps 33

Pharaoh had two dreams, when he woke up his heart was troubled. He told the dreams to his wise men, but none of them could interpret them. The chief butler remembered how Joseph had interpreted his dream in the king’s prison so he recommended Joseph. The king asked for him, within minutes Joseph was standing before Pharaoh. After interpreting the dreams , the King made him a prime minister. Before appearing before the king, Joseph did two things. Genesis 41:14 says then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

The first thing Joseph did was he shaved himself. A young man was sharing with us how his beards worked against him at interviews. His barber suggested he shaved it but he didn't pay any attention to it. Out of curiosity, he decided to check the pictures of all the successful men in the world and he found out that most of them had a clean shave. He attended his next job interview clean shaven and got the job. Have you ever seen a president or king with a goatee? Clean shave makes you look younger, neater, kingly and respectable. Joseph stood before Pharaoh clean shaved and Pharaoh saw the prime minister in him.

The second thing Joseph did was he changed his raiment which tells you different clothes have different purposes. There is a way to dress when you are in the bedroom with your husband or wife, there is a way to dress when you have visitors, and there is a way to dress  when you are going for interviews. For example avoid too many bright colors and please don’t wear a green suit or yellow suit or purple suit to a job interview. There is a way to dress when you are going for evangelism. When you are coming before God you put on your best because you are coming to meet the King of kings. When you are going for evangelism, you dress well. The changed raiment also signifies a changed mentality. When Joseph stood before Pharaoh, he spoke with authority like a prime minister not a prisoner. Joseph’s physical appearance played a major role in Pharaoh’s decision to make him a prime minister.

ACTION POINT: Always comb your hair and women should keep their hair neat.

THE ROLE OF THE BRIDE

MEMORY VERSE: and the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him, Genesis 2:18

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 4-5, Eph 2, Ezek 35, Ps 23-24

When we hear the word ‘bride’, what comes to mind is marriage. After creating Adam, the Lord observed that this man was lonely. To solve his problem of loneliness, He created Eve. Adam and Eve got married and this problem was solved. Loneliness was the problem marriage came to solve not the lack of sex so please do not get married because of sex or because it will be good for your ministry or because you feel you are getting old. Do not rush into marriage because your parents are mounting pressure on you or because you want to be respected .Please and please do not get married because you want to put on a wedding ring and marriage doesn’t always solve financial problems. It has been proving that marriage does not really solve the problem of lack of sex or any of the above points mentioned.

Genesis 2:18 says and the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. The number one duty of a wife is to be a companion to his husband in other words solve his problem of loneliness, all others are secondary. As a godly wife, your husband must come first not the ministry, business or children. The moment your husband comes second, the purpose of marriage is defeated. Children cannot solve the problem of loneliness and God did not give them to you to solve the problem of loneliness. As a godly man, it is deemed ungrateful not to appreciate or to frustrate the help or companion God has given to you. Your companion is a good thing and favor from the Lord (Proverbs 18:22). Because she is your companion and your best friend, there must not be any secrets. As your companion, she is meant to be the closest person to you on earth.

God created Eve to meet the needs of Adam. God created brides to meet the needs of the grooms. As brides of Christ, our relationship with Him should not be to solve our problems but to meet the needs of Jesus. Our number one duty is to minister to Christ i.e. be His companion. We are to spend time with Him in prayer and praises. Other activities are secondary. Time with Jesus must always come first, the ministry, evangelism, work in the church e.t.c are all secondary. Many of us are now putting ministry before Jesus. Many of us labor day in day out at the church, but we never spend quality time with Jesus and that should not be so. Just as putting anything before the husband can have a detrimental effect on the marriage, putting anything before Jesus has detrimental effect on our relationship with Him.

PRAYER POINT: Father, please help me to spend more time ministering to you.

RIGHTEOUS PAYS

MEMORY VERSE: little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous, 1 John 3:7

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 3, Eph 1, Ezek 34, Ps 22

We live in a world that promotes ungodliness. The systems in place are so crooked that it is either you bribe your way out or you are denied what rightly belongs to you. In a world that rewards dishonesty; many wonder is it really worth it to be righteous? Friends, a life of righteousness is not an option but compulsory. 1 Thessalonians 4:7 says for God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. As sides from the obvious that Christ demands a life of righteousness from every believer, sin on the other hand withholds good from us. According to Jeremiah 5:25, iniquities have the ability to turn away God's blessings from a fellow. Not only that, regarding iniquity in our heart can cause God to turn a deaf ear to our prayers ( Psalm 66:18).

When you go through the scriptures you will observe that the Lord discusses His plans with His righteous friends. Psalm 25:14 says the secret of the Lord are with those that fear Him. Before the Lord destroyed the earth with water, He told Noah, Genesis 6:11- 22. Before He destroyed Sodom with fire, He told Abraham (Genesis 18:19-33). Before returning the second time, He told us He is coming with His rewards for every man according to His works ( Revelation 22:12). What kind of reward do you think your work will attract?

What is righteousness? A man once defined righteousness as the nature of God imparted into the human spirit that gives him the ability to stand before God without any sense of guilt or inferiority complex. In other words, if a righteous man sins he still remains righteous because righteousness is a gift of God. He further explained that the nature of goat does not change because he swam in an overwhelming ocean. THE ABOVE EXPLANATION IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE BIBLE! Righteousness has its basis in actions. 1John 3:7 says little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. To act right is to be righteous. Would you call a believer who fornicates, a righteous person? I doubt not! A goat swimming in the ocean is not a righteous goat because goats are not meant to be swimming in the ocean just like a fish that chews grass is not a righteous fish either because it is not right for fish to chew grass. It is not right for a believer to live in sin.

REMEMBER: We are in the world but not part of the world.

HEAT AND EXPANSION

MEMORY VERSE: and the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth, Genesis 7:17.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 2, Gal 6, Ezek 33, Ps 20-21

Anyone who did physics in secondary school must have heard of the word thermal expansion. It is the tendency of matter to CHANGE IN VOLUME IN RESPONSE TO A CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE. In other words, getting HOTTER equals getting BIGGER. A classical example is a thermometer. The liquid in a thermometer (mercury or alcohol) is constructed to flow in one direction (along the tube) due to changes in volume brought about by changes in temperature. As the room temperature INCREASES, the liquid in the thermometer begins to EXPAND and GROW LONGER towards to the red line. The liquid CONTRACTS and becomes SMALLER when the room temperature DROPS. THINGS EXPAND WITH THE ADDITION OF HEAT AND CONTRACT WHEN HEAT IS REMOVED.

The story of Noah is a very popular one. The Lord told him to build an ark and gather all the animals in the ark because He wanted to destroy the world with water. Noah built the ark and informed everyone about the rain but they laughed him to scorn. Noah got into the ark with animals and it began to rain. The bible records that and the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift above the earth (Genesis 7:17). Many of us know the end of the story.

Water signifies big challenges spiritually. Isaiah 43:2 says when you go through waters I will be with you. The water referred to is challenges and problem. From our memory verse we see that it was the water that bare the ark up. As the water INCREASED, the ark went up HIGHER. Brethren, CHALLENGES are very good because they cause us to GROW. During challenges we pray more and fast more. THE HARDER THE EXAM, THE BIGGER THE REWARD. How does an ordinary student end up as a lawyer, doctor, accountant etc? It is through HEAT and PRESSURE. When a student goes to school, he studies hard. He subjects himself to a lot of pressure; he reads during day and at night when others are sleeping. It is this HEAT and PRESSURE that transforms this student into a GRADUATE. Spiritually the more assignments you are willing to take in Christ, the more you will expand in Him. Spiritual growth involves a lot of work. It involves a lot of fasting, praying, deep bible studies, praying in tongues etc. The reason why God allows us to face challenges at time is to expand us. The moment one refuses to be STRETCHED, that fellow will start to SHRINK. Heat represents inconvenience, stress, challenges, disappointments etc. It is HEAT that turns an ordinary STONE to into GOLD! Without heat there will be no expansion.

WISE SAYING: It is the stress in the catapult that drives the stone forward.

KNOW YOUR LOCATION

MEMORY VERSE: and Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took break, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting in on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away; and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-Sheba and the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot; for she said, let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept, Genesis 21:14-16.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1Kgs 1, Gal 5, Ezek 32, Ps 19
The PLAN and PURPOSE of God for our lives is tied to certain LOCATIONS. Because of the FAMINE in the land, Isaac tried to RELOCATE to EGYPT but the Lord WARNED him against the move (Genesis 26:1-3). He remained at GERAR and the Lord PROSPERED him there. Joseph on the other hand wanted to remain in CANAAN with his father, but the Lord MOVED HIM to EGYPT (Genesis 37:28-36). By the time we get to Genesis 41:37-43, the Lord had made him a PRIME MINISTER in EGYPT. The PROMISES of God for your life is tied to a certain LOCATION, until you GET to that LOCATION  those PROMISES might not MATERIALIZE.
God divinely placed Hagar to be Sarah’s handmaid. John 3:27 says a man receives nothing except it be giving by God. It was not a stroke of luck that Hagar got pregnant for Abraham. This young woman did not APPRECIATE where God had put her ( her location) and began to cause problems. She began to teach her son to act rudely towards Sarah and Isaac. The matter got to Abraham and that one sent them packing. Hagar’s LACK OF CHARACTER caused her to be ejected from her location and she paid dearly for it.
There are one or two reasons why you need to KNOW YOUR LOCATION AND REMAIN AT YOUR LOCATION. When your LOCATION changes ; your CHALLENGES changes. When Hagar was with Abraham, she never experienced thirst but the moment she was sent away, she began to experience thirst. When your LOCATION changes the following also changes: your SUPPORT NETWORK changes; your SUPPLY changes; your RATE OF PROGRESS changes; your ACCESS TO RESOURCES  changes; your PROTECTION changes. Because her LOCATION changed, her FRIENDS  changed – the wild animals in the wilderness became her friends. Hagar who used to ride on donkeys and horses began to walk on foot because she did not APPRECIATE WHERE GOD HAD PUT HER.  David said there is but a step between ME and DEATH (1 Samuel 20:3). In other words there is but a step between LIFE and DEATH, and that step could be moving from ONE’S location or REMAINING AT THE WRONG location. There is a PLACE where God has created for you and that is your location. If you are where God wants you to be i.e. your location, you can be rest assured that HE will be there with you.
PRAYER POINT: Father, please show me my location?

ATTENTION SEEKING

MEMORY VERSE: ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God, James 4:4.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 24, Gal 4, Ezek 31, Ps 18
Have you ever wondered, why some people turn their car stereo so loud on a busy street and turn it down on the motor way? Although it is an immature thing to do, the motive behind it is to get the attention of passersby. Why does a young lady go out of the house in a dress that exposes part of the body that is meant to be covered or in tight clothes? If some of these ladies want to be sincere, they will tell you that they feel uncomfortable wearing them. The motive behind it, is to get the attention of un-serious men like them. The number one reason why students join cults in the university is not because they want protection; all they want is just attention. They want the whole school to know they are bad, that’s all.
One thing with attention seeking is that people seek the attention of individuals that are dear to them or individuals whose opinion they hold in high esteem.
The bible describes Job as a perfect and upright man, who feared God and eschewed evil (Job 1:1). Why be so perfect? Job understood that one of the ways to get God’s attention is by being perfect just as God is (Matthew 5:48). Aside from the obvious fact that you can get God’s attention by loving righteousness and hating evil, by becoming the enemy of the world you attract God’s attention. James 4:4 says ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. To get God’s attention, start doing what likes. Obey Him to the letter (John 15:14). Don’t join the world to draw tattoos or get your body pierced (Leviticus 19:28); Stop attending late night parties ( Romans 13:13); Start reading your bible regularly (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:1-3); Pay your tithes (Malachi 3:8); Start witnessing (Matthew 12:30); start bearing spiritual fruits (Galatians 5:22-23) ; regularly sing praise to God ( Psalm 34:1); start functioning in one department or the other at church ( Hebrew 11:6, Rev 22:12); give sacrificially (Luke 6:38, Proverbs 11:25).
PRAYER POINT: Father, as I seek your attention please turn your face towards me.

AROUND THE WELL AND STILL THIRSTY

MEMORY VERSE: and God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottled with water, and gave the lad the drink, Genesis 21:19.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 23, Gal 3, Ezek 30, Ps 17

BIBLE STUDIES: Genesis 21:15-20

Water they say is the source of life. Medical science thought us that the human body is made up of over 70 percent water. Geography thought us that about 70 percent of the planet is covered in ocean, and the average depth of the ocean is several thousand feet (about 1,000 meters). Hence the value of water cannot be overstated. A well is a reservoir of water.

Whilst going through Genesis 21:15-20, the Holy Spirit brought my attention to one or two things. Firstly, a fellow can be beside a well and still thirst. In Genesis 21:15 -16, Hagar and her son were beside a well and yet they were thirsty. One could be surrounded by opportunities and still complain of lack of opportunities. Because Hagar could not see, she and her son thirst around the well. There are many of us surrounded by opportunities but we can’t see them, we need to pray for vision. Prayer Point: Father, please open my eyes to see opportunities around me.

Secondly, the fact that you can see the well is not a guarantee that you will be able to draw from it. In Genesis 24:11-15 the servant of Abraham saw a well but had to wait for Rebekah because he had nothing to draw with. You need a drawing bucket to draw water from the well. You need means or provisions to take advantage of an opportunity. A brilliant business idea with no provision to start it is as good as no business idea.  Prayer Point: Father, please provide for me so that I can take advantage of the opportunities around me.

Thirdly, a fellow who wants to draw water from the well must be ready for work. To avail one’s self of the content of the well, one must throw the drawing bucket into the well and draw water. God has presented you with a business idea and you have some money with you, start little. You are around people who can counsel you about business go and meet them for counsel. God is laying it on your mind to start a ministry and you have friends in that ministry, approach them for counsel. You have found a sister or brother you want to spend your life with, meet your pastors and ask them to pray with you. Prayer Point: Father, please give me the grace to take positive steps towards the accomplishment of your goals for my life.

UNDERMINING THE ENEMY

UNDMEMORY VERSE: give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts, Proverbs 31:6.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 22, Gal 2, Ezek 29, Ps 15-16
The wife of Potiphar approached Joseph and told him I want to destroy you (Genesis 39:7-12). Wait a minute… she said ‘lie with me’ not ‘I want to destroy you’. Well Proverbs 2:14 says the mouth of a strange woman (adulterous woman or immoral woman) is a deep pit and he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein. Proverbs 22:22 compares anyone going after strange women to an ox taken to the abattoir for slaughter. So anyone inviting you to fornicate with them is politely offering to destroy you. The wife of Potiphar did not hide her intentions, she made it known from the start that my mission is to bring you down and Joseph did not take her serious.
Joseph undermined her; he thought within himself ‘I carry the grace of God so I can’t fall’. When he least expected, the wife of Potiphar grabbed him and said today is today; although he escaped, he ended up in the king’s prison. Joseph had ample time to put measures in to place but he didn’t. He could have brought the attention of people to the conduct of this woman but he didn’t. He knew the wife of Potiphar was in the house, he could have brought someone along with him but he didn’t. This boy just threw caution into the wind and went inside the house when no one was at home.
There are several believers today who are undermining the enemy. That brother or sister who always wants to be alone with you in a secluded area is an enemy. Those little white lies are enemies; the moment you are caught you become a liar. Those late night movies tagged ‘adult only’ are enemies, one can become addicted to them. Those so called bottles of beer you call source of iron e.g. Guinness are enemies. I even heard it is called blood tonic and people make punch with it. According to Proverbs 31:6 , only those who want to perish are permitted to drink. Alcohol is far more dangerous than any drug you can think of. The effect of drugs is immediate but alcohol settles in first before causing harm. Whilst sitting and consuming alcohol everything seems fine, you smile and chat as normal. The moment you stand to walk, its effect kicks in. If you are not careful, you may fall and sustain injuries. Statistics have shown that alcohol kills more than drugs and guns.
PRAYER POINT: Father. Please open my eyes to see the enemies of my soul and give me the wisdom to deal with them.

‘POTIPHAR’S WIFE’ – THE STRATEGY

MEMORY VERSE: And it came to pass about this time that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out, Genesis 39:11-12.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 21, Gal 1, Ezek 28, Ps 13-14
‘Potiphar’s wife’ represents enemies whose sole objective is to destroy men and women with great potentials before they are discovered. There are one or two things we need to know about her. She is subtle and very cunning. I have always wondered how she managed to seduce Joseph day by day and no one around noticed. She is also very patient and persistent. She never takes no for an answer. Joseph would say no today, the next morning she would return with a smile saying , “dear Joseph what about what we discussed yesterday”, and this continued for days. ‘Potiphar’s wife’ never gives up until she accomplishes her mission. Despite the fact that Samson kept on saying no, Delilah kept coming back. At a point Samson got tired and gave in, before you know it he was in chains (Judges 16:4-23).
‘Potiphar’s wife’ attacks when one is most vulnerable. She kept an eye of Joseph’s movement, she watched him for many days. The bible records that and it came to pass about this time that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out (Genesis 39:11-12).
Potiphar’s wife attacks when no one is watching. This is why the bible admonishes us to walk circumspectly (Ephesians 5:15). How does one deal with ‘Potiphar’s wife’? How does one deal with a brother or sister who is always pestering one to go into sin with them? The answer is flee! 1 Thessalonian 5:22 says flee from all appearance of evil. Don’t rebuke Potiphar’s wife because it is ineffective; don’t abuse her because she knows no shame; don’t threaten her because she is determined. The only solution is flee from her. If you are in a relationship where the other party is asking you to lie with them carnally , flee from them! If you remain in that relationship he or she will continue to pester you and one day you will fall. Many instead of fleeing, remain in the relationship and keep saying no. At a point they become tired and give in, few days after that the relationship breaks down and before you know it is over. If you have been in that position, I pray that the Lord almighty will heal you in Jesus name, amen.
ACTION POINT: Rebuke demons but flee from ‘Potiphar’s wife’

BEWARE OF POTIPHAR'S WIFE

MEMORY VERSE: And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured, Genesis 39:6
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 20, 2 Cor 13, Ezek 27, Ps 11-12
The enemy is always after individuals with great destinies – prime ministers, heads of state, presidents, kings, queens, governors, lawyers, bishops, CEOs, pastors, entrepreneurs, scientists, inventors’ e.t.c in the making. So if you are always experiencing challenges, it could be that you are a great man or woman in the making.  Potiphar’s wife represents enemies whose sole objective is to destroy men and women with great potentials before they are discovered. The wife of Potiphar recognized the potential in Joseph and began to lure him to bed in other that he might sin against God. Thank God Joseph was wiser.
Out of all the young men serving under Potiphar she picked Joseph, why? Firstly, Joseph was in a position of authority and trust. His master entrusted him with all that he had. Genesis 39:6a says and he left all that he in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not out he had, save the bread which he did eat. Potiphar’s wife is always after people (especially young men and women) who are in the position of authority or people who are holding a position of trust. She is always after youths who the Lord has entrusted great assignments into their hands. She is aware of their potential and would do anything to ensure that she destroys them before they are discovered. This is why I always warn young people occupying positions of authority to be wary of the opposite sex.
Secondly, Joseph was a goodly man, Genesis 39:6b. Portiphar’s wife is always looking for young innocent youths to destroy. They are present in the church. They are not ready to give their lives to Christ. They only come to get a brother or sister to marry. Thirdly, Joseph was well favored and things were working for him, Genesis 39:6c. ‘Potiphar’s wife’ is always invisible when one is struggling, the moment things begins to work in one’s favor they begin to appear. When Joseph was a nobody, she didn’t trouble him but immediately he became the head she tried to befriend him. I want you to know that the Lord who protected Joseph is still alive and He will protect you in Jesus name, amen.
PRAYER POINT: Father, protect me from the hunters of destiny.

LOVE.. A DEFENSE MECHANISM

MEMORY VERSE: doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, 1 Corinthians 13:5

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 19, 2 Cor 12, Ezek 26, Ps 10

Love is the first fruit of the regenerated human spirit, Galatians 5:22. When you truly walk in love, sinning against God becomes impossible. Romans 13:10 says love worketh no ill to his neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. When you love your neighbor, you won’t gossip about them. When you truly love your neighbor, you won’t cheat him or take advantage of him. When you are truly walking in love, you will live at peace with your neighbors.

Anytime the enemy wants to destroy a fellow, he plays on his lack of love. It does not matter the level of anointing on a brother or sister, if he or she does not abide in love within a short period of time that bro or sister will fall. When the enemy wanted to destroy Judas Iscariot, he played on his lack of love. A fellow who abides in love will never betray his neighbor. 1 Corinthians 13:5 says doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil- talking of love. It wasn’t that Judas was not anointed. As a matter of fact, Judas was one of the twelve disciples Jesus gave power to in Matthew 10:1. He had a healing ministry and was also an evangelist. Judas was part of the twelve Jesus told not to rejoice because spirits are subject unto them but to rejoice because their names were written in heaven in Luke 10:20. It will shock you to know that the name of Judas Iscariot was written in the book of life until he betrayed Jesus and the heavens blotted it out.

The majority of the nightmares and bad dreams people have are as a result of not walking in love.1 John 2:11 says but he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not wither he goest, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. God made darkness i.e. night for the beasts of the forest to move around, Psalm 104:20 -25. If you see yourself been chased by a dog or leopard or other beasts in your dreams, it may be a sign that you are walking in darkness (not in love). If you are not in talking terms with your neighbor, don’t be surprised if you find them chasing you in the dream. When you wake up, you do not need to rebuke any demon because it is not a demon matter. All you need to do is ask God to forgive you for not living in peace with your neighbor. After that go and settle with your neighbor.

PRAYER POINT: Father, please let your love be shared abroad in my heart.

NO VESSEL, NO OIL

MEMORY VERSE: and it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, there is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed, 2 Kings 4:6
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 18, 2 Cor 11, Ezek 25, Ps 9
BIBLE STUDY: 2 Kings 4:1-7
The oil in our bible study represents God’s blessing and anointing. The borrowing of vessels represents tasks or divine assignments. As long as the widow kept on borrowing vessels, the oil kept flowing. The moment the empty vessels ceased, the oil stayed.
The task of borrowing empty vessels was not an easy one for the sons of the widow. The task involved taking actions and obeying divine instructions from the prophet. They had to leave their comfort zone (home) to go and knock at the door of their neighbors and strangers. At first they started with nearby neighbors (those on the same streets) and later moved on to the next street. The farther they traveled to borrow empty vessels, the more effort was required to bring these empty vessels back home. In the process of going from house to house to borrow empty vessels, the boys experienced abuse, rejection , some even harassed them but these boys ignored all these and kept on making efforts to borrow empty vessels. At a point, these boys became satisfied with the number of empty vessels they had borrowed and went back home. Sadly their oil stayed when their vessels ceased.
Friend, I want you to know that life is a continuous motion. You are either moving forward or going backward, there is nothing like been stagnant. The moment these boys stopped borrowing vessels, they began to go backwards. They frustrated the agenda of God for their family and threw away the opportunity to become a blessing to their nation. This is the exact thing that happens in the life of many believers today. They get satisfied with the little things the Lord has done for them and stop pushing themselves. The reason why many are not experiencing God the way they should experience Him is because they have either stopped pushing themselves or they don’t want to be pushed anymore. Many only want to fast once or twice in a week; nobody wants to wait before God in fasting and praying for seven days. Many of us do not want to memories bible verses anymore, we want to depend on Google. Many of us are satisfied with functioning in one department of the church, we do not want to join any other departments. The moment we stop pushing ourselves to be better in the Lord, the oil dries. Many are satisfied with the one or two gifts of the Holy Spirit they have. As far as they can speak in tongues or dream once in a while they are satisfied. We no longer covet other gifts like interpretation of tongues or word of wisdom.
REMEMBER: The moment we stop pushing ourselves to be better in the Lord, the oil dries.

AND THE OIL STAYED

MEMORY VERSE: and it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, there is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. 2 Kings 4:6
 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 17, 2 Cor 10, Ezek 24, Ps 7-8
 BIBLE STUDIES: 2 Kings 4:1-7
A particular widow in the bible owed some money. As she was unable to pay, the creditors decided to take her two sons as slaves. She ran to the prophet of God who then gave her three instructions. He told her to go and borrow as many empty vessels as possible, shut the door and pour the little oil she had at home into the empty vessels. She and her son got some vessels, shut the door and poured the oil in the vessels. After they had filled all the available vessels and there was none left, the oil stopped following.
The oil in the passage represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the borrowing of vessels represents God given task. As long as they kept borrowing empty vessels, the oil kept on flowing. The moment the empty vessels ceased, the oil stayed. As long as you keep making yourself available for God to use, He will continue to release His anointing on upon you. The moment one stops, the pouring of anointing too stops.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit can turn a debt-ridden man to a debt free man (2 Kings 4:1-7). The anointing of the Holy Spirit on a fellow can turn him into an agent of joy. Jesus was able to impact many lives because of the anointing on Him (Acts 10:38). That widow could not take advantage of the flowing oil because of lack of vessels. She had the opportunity to borrow all the vessels in the neighborhood, but she brought only a few. The task of borrowing vessels was not an easy one as it involves a lot. For example it involves leaving one’s comfort zone (home). It involves carrying of heavy empty vessels around. If care is not taken it  may lead to embarrassment from rude and unwelcoming neighbors. These boys didn't want to go through all that so they brought the few they could lay their hands on thereby missing the opportunity to keep the oil flowing. Working for God or serving in the vineyard of God may be boring and tedious but guess what,  the reward is trans- generational.  As the Lord begins to pour His oil on you, you will begin to experience turn around in all spheres of your life. There is enough anointing of the Holy Spirit to make you outstanding in that endeavor, are you ready to undertake God’s tasks?
PRAYER POINT: Father, as I begin to make myself available for your use, pour your anointing upon me.

AND WE SHALL SEE WHAT WILL BECOME OF HIS DREAMS

MEMORY VERSE: come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams, Genesis 37: 20
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 15, 2 Cor 8, Ezek 22, Ps 3-4
BACKGROUND: In Genesis 37:5 – 8 Joseph had a dream; he saw himself and his brothers binding sheaves in the field. All of a sudden his brother’s sheaves began to bow to his own sheaf. When he woke up, he told this dream to his brothers and the bible records that they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. He had another dream, this time around the sun, the moon and eleven stars bowed down to him. When he woke again he told the dream to his family as usual and the brothers decided that enough was enough. One day his father sent him to his brothers, when they saw him afar off they conspired to throw him into a pit so that he might perish with his dreams.
From studying the story of Joseph, the Holy Spirit helped me to understand that the brothers of Joseph were not after his coat of many colors. The coat of many colors simply represented God’s favor and blessing. The enemy cared less about his coat of many colors; one thing they were after was his dreams. Friends I want you to understand that the enemy is not concerned about your bank balances, booming business , growing ministry , well paid job, nice car , lovely house , academic qualifications ,  caring wife , obedient children , growing ministry ,etc. One thing the enemy is after is your dreams. The enemy understands that a fellow without vision or dream is as good as dead. The enemy will not waste his resources on such. Proverbs 29:18 says where there is no vision, the people perish. The enemy knows that the key to realizing your potential in Jesus is through dreams and vision, and he does not want that.
Have you been wondering why ever since you gave your life to Christ, the enemy has been waging war against you? The reason for all these is because of your dream to make it to heaven and reign with Christ forever. There are few things you need to know. Those mighty dreams the Lord has shown you are not for all ears so you need to watch who you share them with. Joseph made the mistake of discussing God’s plan for his life with his brothers and that almost cost him his life. Do not boast with God’s plan for your life. Every dream you have had, every great prophecies you have received are just your potential in Christ. You have a role to play in bringing them to reality. The fact that God has promised to do something mighty in your life does not mean you should rest on your oars. Lastly there are two people responsible for the fulfillment of your dreams, you and God. God is ready to play His part but you must be ready to play your part. Playing your part includes working hard and running away from sin.
POINT: Your dream and visions makes you a terror to the enemy.

DISADVANTAGES OF FAVORITISM

MEMORY VERSE: and when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him, Genesis 37:4

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 14, 2 Cor 7, Ezek 21, Ps 1-2

Jacob loved Joseph more than all his children for obvious reasons. He loved him because he was the first born of Rachel (his favorite wife). Not only that, he loved him because he was the son of his old age. Because of all these, he showered this young man with gifts. As parents it is quite understandable to like a child above the others but it is unwise to show it or favor one above the other. Jacob did not only love Joseph more all his children, he favored him more than his children. Out of his twelve sons, he made a coat of many colors for Joseph alone. The other sons noticed and began to hate Joseph. Genesis 37:4 says and when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

The problem of Joseph started when his father began to favor him above all the other children. Friends became foes when Jacob began to pay extra attention to Joseph at the expense of other children. Jacob broke the bond of unity amongst his children because he favored one above the rest. This old man unknowingly divided his family into two – Joseph and other children as a result of favoritism. Favoritism births enmity between children or a team. Favoritism amongst any team breaks the bond of unity within that team. Favoritism causes problems and breaks up a team.

There are a lot of parents who have caused enmity between their children as a result of favoritism. There are many who look after the male children and neglect the female children. All children should be treated the same and no one should be neglected. When a parent begins to favor a child above the other, such parent is dividing the family and giving the enemy an opportunity to come in between the children. Treat all children the same, give them the same opportunity. The fact that you love a child above others is not a criterion to favor him. The fact that you love a member of staff above others is not a criterion to favor him or her above others. When you favor an individual above others, you are only creating problem for the individual. Not only that, the favored individual will begin to face unnecessary challenges. Favoritism can turn brothers to murderers. It was favoritism that landed Joseph in the pit. Although Joseph was favored above his brothers, he paid dearly for it and it almost cost him his life .Favoritism should be frowned upon in our churches, homes, community, national assemblies and parliaments. It only gives the enemy an opportunity to divide us.

ACTION POINT: Voice against favoritism.

MY DEFENSE IS OF GOD

MEMORY VERSE: My defense is of God, which saveth the upright in heart, Psalm 7:10
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 13, 2 Cor 6, Ezek 20, John 21
The importance of defense cannot be overestimated. In Football we have different playing positions, we have the goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders and forward. The defenders play behind the midfielders and their primary responsibility is to provide support to the team and to prevent the opposition from scoring a goal. They also stop opposing players particularly the strikers from scoring, and bring the ball out from their penalty area. The defense is supposed to be an impenetrable wall that provides a team with the security it needs. How effective the defender is will help in determining whether the team that he plays for will win or lose. There are two physical qualities one looks for in a defender, height and strength. High ball is one of the most common attacking strategies in soccer, especially if the opponent has the advantage of a tall striker. A tall defender will be able to deal with high balls easily. The role of the defender is an active role throughout the game hence the need for a defender with strong stamina.
When your defense is of God, you can be rest assured that you will not concede any goal in the game of life. When you talk of height, our God is taller than the tallest. According to Isaiah 66:1, heaven is His throne and the earth is His footstool. He is not only very tall, He is massively big. According to 1 Kings 8:27, the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him. When you talk of strength, our God is stronger than the strongest. According to Isaiah 62:11, all power belongs to Him. Not only that, He is able to break the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder, Psalm 107:16.
When your defense is of God, you can be rest assured that you will not die before your time. When He is your defense you can boast and say no weapon fashion against me shall prosper. The enemies can attack but the Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard against them, Isaiah 59:19. For God to be your defense, you must be upright in heart. Psalm 7:10 says my defense is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. Theologians have said that the Hebrew word for upright has two significations. It signifies plainness of heart. The tongue and the heart of an upright man go together. In other words, he says what he mean and means what he says. It also signifies a man approved by God. An upright man is one whom God thinks highly of. An upright man works by an upright rule, works from on upright principle and also works to an upright end. Not only that, he endeavors to make others upright.
PRAYER POINT: Father, please give me an upright heart today.

DO AWAY WITH THE STRANGE GODS

Genesis 35:5. The family of Jacob consisted mainly of women and children. They had no sophisticated weapon, they had no military experience, they had nothing yet mighty nations dreaded to engage them in battle because the terror of God was upon them. Everyone knew Jacob was tiny yet they dare not come near them because the mighty One of Israel was with them.
When God is behind an individual, such an individual will enjoy peace. Proverbs 16:7 says when a man’s way please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Matthew 10:36 says a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. When those of your household know that your God is a consuming fire, they will hold their peace. When God is behind a brother, his journey in life will be smooth and hindrance free. According to Isaiah 45:2, the Lord will go before him and make the crooked places straight. Not only that, he will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunders their iron bars. When God is behind a fellow, the resources and energy that should be used to fight the enemies will diverted into other profiting project.
The first thing an individual needs to do to get God behind him is that he needs to change his garments. He needs to put away the old garments of sin and wear a garment of righteousness. According to 2 Corinthians 5:17 all things must pass away and all things must become new. The individual also needs to put away the strange gods in his life. Genesis 35:4 says and they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. I have always wondered why they gave Jacob their earrings. Is there a relationship between strange gods and earrings? Could it be that earrings were a form of strange gods? Or could it be that earrings have the potential of becoming strange gods? The strange gods were things that had taken the place of God in their life. Do you know that if care is not taken, our children can become our strange gods? When we begin to displease God to please them, they become strange gods. Our phones can easily become strange gods, when we spend so much time on them and have no time to wait on the Lord. Until we get rid of the strange gods, the presence of God will not be evident in our life.
PRAYER POINT: Father, please let your presence be felt by everyone around me.

DANGERS OF FREEDOM

MEMORY VERSE: take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls, Matthew 11:29

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Sam 11, 2 Cor 4, Ezek 18, John 19

BIBLE STUDY: Genesis 34:1-2

BACKGROUND: Dinah was bored at home; there was no one to play with, no one to chat with, and no one to have fun with so she decided to go out to see the daughters of the land. On her way Shechem took her and raped her. Later Shechem was killed.

ANALYSIS: Dinah was safe at home. Her Dad had several guards who watched after her and the family. If she had remained at home, she would not have become a victim of rape. Because she wanted a bit of fun, she left home (a safe territory) to see the daughters of the land (an unsafe territory) and was attacked. Dinah saw staying at home as living under a yoke, but she failed to realize that living under that yoke afforded her safety.

The day you give your life to Christ, He puts His yoke on your neck. You are no longer free to do whatever you want to do. You are no longer free to dress the way you want to dress. You are no longer free to say the things you want to say. At times people will talk to you rudely and you want to respond but you can’t because of the yoke of Christ on you. You know as a Christian you are not allowed to be rude. At times you want to take revenge but you can’t because of the yoke of Christ on you. You know as a Christian you are not allowed to take revenge. At times you want to relax with a pint of beer but you can’t because you know Christians don’t drink beer. At times you are so stressed and you desperately need a fag or smoke a cigarette but can’t because you know Christians don’t smoke. The yoke of Christ restricts in a lot of ways. You want to go to clubs but you cannot. You want to do the things your friends do but you cannot. Brethren, I want you to know that the yoke of Christ may restrict you but it keeps you from a lot of harm. The Christian life maybe boring, but it keeps you safe. That is why you will never hear that the police arrested a believer for a drink driving offense because a true Christian does not consume alcohol. That is why you will never hear a true Christian having sexually transmitted diseases because a true Christian will not fornicate. You will never hear that a true Christian was stabbed at the club because he won’t be there in the first place. It is impossible to hear that a Christian lady got pregnant and the man refused to accept the baby because a Christian lady will not have sex until she is married. Inside Christ your marriage is safe and it is almost impossible for the man to cheat. Where is the time to cheat? He will go to work, attend all the church programs and come back home tired. Where is the time to cheat when he is concentrating on winning souls for Christ?

POINT: The Christian life maybe boring but it gives peace of mind.
